Dresses to invest in

Dresses to invest in

Lipsy dresses

Christmas dos offer the perfect excuse to invest in a couple of new dresses, but shop smartly now and you could be wearing your new party-perfect pieces well into next year.

We take a peek at the looks that are going to be big for s/s11 to help you pick the dresses worth investing in.

Animal print

Christopher Bailey paired slinky leopard print party dresses with tough biker jackets for Burberry Prorsum's s/s11 shows - the perfect way to keep your wild-side alive when it's too warm to wear your favourite leopard faux fur coat.

Invest in Pixie's favourite lace panel animal print shift dress or the super-sexy animal print ruched dress.

Lace detailing

While Christopher Kane and Erdem brightened up lace for s/s11 with neon brights, red and whites, black dresses with lace detailing are still very much in abundance in next year's hottest collections, with Karl Lagerfeld just one of the major fashion forces championing the dramatic look.

Invest in the Lipsy lace panelled dress, Pixie lace top smock dress or the Pixie low-back lace dress - backless dresses only add to the drama of this look.

1960s shifts

1960s styles are huge at the moment and will remain equally influential in 2011. Follow in the footsteps of Alexa Chung and create cute outfits with shift dresses, Peter Pan collars and Mary Janes - the perfect look to take you from day to night.

Invest in the bow detail shift or the beaded bow neckline shift for versatile style.

Maxi dresses

Long dresses of the floaty and floral variety brought the 1970s boho look to the catwalks of D&G, Matthew Williamson and Erdem at s/s11 Fashion Weeks. Column dresses in minimal black and neutrals will also form the basis of on-trend looks well into next season.

Invest in the VIP printed beaded maxi dress, the perfect affordable alternative to designer dresses, or the elegant cross-over bust embellished or one shoulder beaded maxis.

Frassy's fashion masterclass

Frassy's fashion masterclass

Fashion blogger Audrey Leighton, aka Frassy, has been featured in Vogue, Elle and Grazia, to name but a few fashion bibles, and is constantly snapped by the best street style photographers. Here she tells Lipsy what she'll be wearing in the new season and how she stamps her own unique style on every outfit she puts together.

Frassy fashion blogger

What's hot

Comfy layering, the standard military-inspired boots and marl grey are the kind of staples that stay loyal to every autumn/winter season. But what's exciting is the surge of tempting new trends coming our way: crisp and clean styles are emerging as the must-have looks.

I'll be adapting Dizzee's mantra, "Fix Up, Look Sharp", by investing in these a/w trends:

The print: Think Blondie in New York circa 1960s - coloured lips and a fiery feline print. Invest in a leopard-print coat or on an oversized animal-print scarf - yum.

The colour: Who needs a Valentine in February with red - this season's hot-as-passion it-colour. I'm coveting a blood-red woolly bandeau dress to pair with slouchy leathers and vintage blazers.

The coat: Consider the overcoat. Oversized, deliciously baggy, the king of all coats and one you can lose your limbs in. As for colour, I'll be headed neutral-way; camel, taupe, sand or military green.

The socks: Ah, the poor sock, an often-neglected ensemble component. Pull them up, past kneesville, or all the way to thighland. The bigger, bulkier and woollier, the better.

Frassy fashion blogger

Own your look

In fashion, it's important to own your look - have a unique take on a trend and an original twist on an outfit.

I almost always embellish my looks with the magic of accessorises. I usually wear something on my head, from hats (oh how I love hats) to headbands, a big backcombed bun or even just an extra-large feather to pin to my ponytail.

Finger bling is another trusty trick: Spice up those paws with a selection of rings. The beauty of rings is that, unlike other jewellery, you can never wear too many.

Nails have also become a big deal trend of late, and it looks like painted paws is a look that's here to stay. Channel Katy Perry and visualise your nails as miniature canvases. Be artistic; from polka dots, through decals, to the Minx nail craze.

Finally, let me introduce you to my best friend: the blazer - they go with everything! Snap up crazy-print styles plus a couple of classics (navy, black, cream) and wear them over any outfit - from a maxi to a mini to a band tee and shorts. Call me old-fashioned, but a little casual tailoring goes a long, long way outfit-wise.

My Lipsy Picks

My Lipsy trend tips for a/w? Grey, embellishment, drape-detail and asymmetric styles. I'm currently coveting these beauties:

Embellished maxi dress - Perfect with a blazer and oversized scarf for transitional season dressing.

Embellished shoulder drape dress - I'd pair this beauty with black towering platforms and a long silk kimono.

Embellished one-shoulder mesh dress - I am dying to wear a dress like this for my 21st birthday party, with an abundance of lavish cocktail rings and a pink bob wig.

Asymmetric jersey mini dress - With a black turban headband and smoky eye makeup, this would scream Catherine Baba - my all time fashion icon.

One-shoulder drape dress - Delicious colour, beautiful tailoring- I'd add one of my Moschino belts, a pair of ridiculously high heels & a dark blazer to create a Frassy-Lipsy ensemble.

New season style: Enchantment

New season style: Enchantment

New Lipsy trends

We know it's only July but the fashion world is always one step ahead, and the prospect of autumn doesn't seem quite so bad now we've seen the fabulous new season styles coming our way.
As championed on the catwalks, autumn/winter looks move towards a more muted colour palette to create soft, vintage-inspired pieces in floaty materials that can only be described as enchanting.

Fairytale frocks

Developing the fashion story from spring/summer, romantic maxi styles and 1950s full skirts remain key, with Marc Jacobs, Paul Smith and Ralph Lauren among the designers to showcase flowing sheer and chiffon pieces at London Fashion Week.

Wear our asymmetric frill maxi dress with must-have clogs and loose, messy hair for new season sophistication.

Lovely in lace

Valentino, Christopher Kane and D&G prove that lace also remains important in a/w, going gothic with statement black lace dresses.

"Black lace paneling and edging make for a more grown-up lingerie feel this season," say the Lipsy design team. "The mood is prim with a hint of gothic fairytale".

Try our lace bow playsuit and tiered lace drop hem top for a wearable take on the trend and look out for Pixie Lott's new lace designs in her upcoming collection.

A feminine feel

For day-to-night looks, fun and feminine details make this trend a girly girl's dream, with photographic florals, beautiful bows and romantic ruffles heading our way.

The sculpture cap sleeve dress is a real go-to number and the studded bow detail bustier and double panel bow dress combine cuteness and sophistication for a look that's truly irresistible.

Rather than statement jewels, this season we'll see more subtle embellishments, perfect for pretty, girly glamour. Beads are "sprinkled and much more pretty, clustered and delicate for a look that's set to continue through a/w", say our design experts.

Finishing touches

So, what do we need to perfect the enchantment look? Judging by new season previews, the corsage continues to reign supreme, and ballet pumps, a nude leather bag and bow-detail belt are all must-have items.

Glastonbury - get the celeb look

Boho-style ruled supreme at Glastonbury again this year, with celebs championing denim hotpants, waistcoats and summer scarves as the festival staples to be seen in.

Trend alert

Hippy chic Sienna Miller stuck to her signature style, pairing denim cut-offs with a vest top, waistcoat and tough boots. And, on the arm of her model/rock star boyfriend George Craig, Emma Watson made her mark as a new Glasto darling in distressed pocket-detail denim shorts and a classic white sleeveless shirt.

Trend alert

There was also a whole lot of lace on show, proving that the trend is here to stay. Pixie Geldof rocked the edgy yet romantic look in a black lace blazer, worn over vest top and shorts.  Team our lace jacket with a body and hotpants for similar 80s-inspired festival style. Or take a leaf out of the gorgeous Jameela Jamil's style book with lace hot pants, a summer scarf and plenty of boho bangles.

While the on-stage Glasto costumes were as theatrical as ever - we're looking at you Florence, Paloma and Kylie - the celebs in the crowd kept it simple.

Choose from our range of denim hotpants and boho waistcoats, pack a few staple vest tops and boho accessories - we're a big fan of hippie hair accessories at the mo - and get set to celebrate like a celeb this festival season!

Splash out in summer prints

Tue 29 Jun 2010

Electrify your holiday wardrobe with scorching summer prints that will help you make a style statement.  This season it's all about graphic and digital prints, adding a futuristic edge to summer party dresses. Chose from our favourite season-essential pieces:

Graphic

This summer's psychedelic digital prints, graphic florals and tropical colours make for the perfect holiday go-to dresses, taking you from beach-bar to club in stand-out style. Check out our one-shoulder slinky dress in vibrant, abstract print and the gorgeous beaded pocket bustier dress, updating the oversized floral trend. Or become a water goddess in the aqua-coloured strapless sweetheart dress - a great tan enhancer.

Animal Print

Wild-child animal print was championed at Clothes Show London's Fashion Theatre last weekend, underlining that this trend is here to stay for the summer. Try Pixie's strapless oversized animal print dress for pop-star style or go monochrome in the zebra print panel strapless dress, incorporating the underwear as outerwear look with pretty lace hem.

Sizzling Separates

With prints so bold, you only need one piece to make a statement, so create unique outfits with separates. Pair our graphic gathered panel skirt with a vest top - don't be afraid to clash prints - or wear the sequin print drop-hem vest with denim shorts - the perfect lo-fi look for festivals and Ibiza's top club nights.

Prom dresses – dress to suit your shape

Mon 21 Jun 2010

A pretty prom dress is the obvious choice for a big night out or an important party, but which style do you choose to best suit your shape? Follow our style guide to find your perfect party dress.

Boyish:

If you're slender with a small bust and narrow hips, take a tip from Kristen Stewart's book and create a more feminine shape with texture and volume. Try our low back lace prom dress with netted skirt - now just £30 - or the Eighties-style bow-skirt dress with structured skirt.

Big bust:

For support for larger busts, choose a dress with straps, as well as a plunging neckline or bustier style to show off your assets. Go for the embellished strap babydoll dress with gorgeous gathered bust detail, or the embellished harness dress with structured bustier cups.

Rounded tummy:

To cover those lumps and bumps, try chiffon numbers that will fall flatteringly over problem areas. The VIP wire-frill hem dress will draw attention away from your tummy to the structured skirt detail, while the light material of the jewelled gathered bust dress floats flatteringly from the beaded band down over your midriff.

Pear-shaped:

If you're pear shaped, make the most of your feminine curves by creating smooth lines over your lower half with block-coloured tulip-style skirts such as the beaded pleat skirt dress or strapless jewelled pocket dress. Or accentuate your womanly shape with a dress that nips in at the waist, such as the one-shoulder Grecian dress with waist band.

Ibiza preview - where to party, what to wear

Kat Perriam, Lipsy girl and Clubbing Editor of IbizaCalling.com, previews the hottest club nights and summer trends to take you through the Ibiza party season.

Lipsy Ibiza blog

Where to party

Last week saw Ibiza's biggest clubs open their doors for the season's launch parties - so what's new on the scene for 2010?

Over two days, Ibiza's longest-standing club Space hosted around 15,000 clubbers ready to see in the season in style. Carl Cox, Fatboy Slim and Groove Armada were among the DJs getting the crowd pumped and ready for the treats the club has in store, including new Wednesday party 'Kehakuma', and the return of famous daytime party 'We Love'.

Lipsy Ibiza blog

Pacha, Ibiza town's most glamourous club, is one of the only places to stay open all year round, but the summer is when it really gets going. This year sees a new night from Chilean DJ Luciano - bringing a mystical blend of deep, latin techno to the club - and also welcomes the return of 'F*** Me I'm Famous', run by Ibiza's very own Posh & Becks, David & Cathy Guetta.

Over in San Antonio, Es Paradis is promising to make this year one of its best yet. With its decedent design and gorgeous gardens, it's the ideal spot for a night of hedonism and this summer not only sees the return of Hed Kandi, but also welcomes new nights such as 'GLAS' (Gay, Lesbian and Straight) - the perfect excuse to pull out all the stops and glam it up!

With the party calendar packed to bursting point for the next four months and a host of new parties popping up all over the island, I wouldn't want to be anywhere else this summer!

What to wear

Ibiza's lavish and carefree attitude means that when it comes to planning what to wear, there are no rules!

The opening parties always offer a good taste of what clubbers will be wearing later in the season and this year saw a mish-mash of styles, proving that Ibiza's boho look is still going strong. Think embellished dresses, aztec prints and lots of fringing and beading. Accessorise with ultra-cool gladiator sandals, headbands and bangles stacked high up the arm.

Lipsy's Ibiza essentials

Don't get on the plane without them!

Grecian goddess dress - Party in style at Ibiza's most glamourous clubs in this gorgeous Grecian dress from Pixie Lott's new collection (more stock to come later this month - reserve now).

Beach cover-up - Hop from beach to bar in this stylish sequin trim kaftan- perfect for frolicking on the beach and cocktails at the bar.

Denim short-shorts - A cute pair of denim hot pants will get you far in Ibiza - pair them with your bikini by day and stacked heels by night.

Wild-child bikini - Look effortlessly stylish as you soak up the Balearic sun with this halterneck zebra print bikini.

Tribal neckpiece - It's all about extravagant accessories and this multi-coin necklace will add instant boho bling.

Trend alert: New season nudes

Mon 07 Jun 2010

Trend alert: New season nudes

Lipsy trends

A girly-girl's dream, fairytale frocks are huge this season - a trend that started out on the catwalks. Valentino, Fendi and Dior were among the designers to champion nudes and sugar pinks as the colour palette of spring/summer, using sensual fabrics to create pretty pieces and texture to add interest.

Satins and chiffons and ruches and ruffles are key to this look, and a hint of the underwear as outerwear trend also goes a long way. Wear a nude corset with a ballerina skirt or go for the two-in-one look with the VIP sequin bust feather dress or jewelled vest dress. Go Grecian goddess in the jewelled chiffon dress or add instant romance in the candy pink jersey ruffle skirt.

Feminine details put the finishing touches to the trend, so look out for bling beading along with sequins and cute bows. The chiffon-beaded bandeau dress looks as delicate as candy floss, and our ribbon-toe strappy stilettos are the perfect on-trend shoe.

Keep make-up natural-looking with nude lips and subtly-highlighted cheeks, and accessorise with vintage charms.

Inject some World Cup fever into your wardrobe

Inject some World Cup fever into your wardrobe

World Cup collection

We don't know how it happened either, but somehow four years have passed since the last time we got to ogle WAG wardrobes at the World Cup, in Germany.

While some were hooked on every set-piece and penalty, we poured over the style details - from Victoria Beckham's sky-scraping stilettos to Cheryl Cole's teeny tiny shorts.

Now there's less than two weeks to go until it all kicks off again in Cape Town, and if you're anything like us you can't wait for the fashion parade - sorry; football tournament - to start.

Patriotic Lipsy girls will undoubtedly want to get into the spirit and show their support for their team. But how can you do it stylishly - and keep away from those unflattering, over-sized England shirts?

Luckily, Lipsy can help you bring a touch of WAG-style glamour to every game, even if you're just watching it at your local.

Take the sexily stylish Lipsy England vest. Wear it with a great pair of skinny jeans and some killer heels and you've got a look that wouldn't be out of place on David Beckham's arm. Or opt for the more dressed-down style of Carly Cole and go for simple England velour lounge pants and matching hoodie.

And if the mood takes you, you could keep it sexy like Abi Clancy - by wearing Lipsy's England shield vest with some denim shorts and some strappy peep-toed heels.

With this little squad in your wardrobe, you'll be helping to keep it 'the beautiful game'.

Festival fashion - the summer's hottest looks
Lipsy festival fashion
The festival season is nearly upon us - it's time to snap up those 'glamping' essentials and plan your packing. So what should make it into your rucksack?

Maxi dress - the most comfortable piece you'll pack this summer. Go for a floaty floral or fierce tribal print maxi.

Shorts - the shorter the better this season - get on-trend with turn-ups, distressed denim or lace hotpants, as spotted on spring/summer catwalks.

Wellies - your gladiators just won't cut it in the mud fields. Wellies look great with short sundresses and hotpants and our black wedges will give you a leg up to help you see through the crowds.

Playsuit - there's nothing easier to wear than an all-in-one - pair with wellies and you're ready to rock. Try our floral halterneck playsuit with boho belt.

Lipsy festival fashion

Printed vest top - Bring out your inner rock chic with a printed vest top - wear with hotpants and a waistcoat.

Sundress - it has to be a LWD (little white dress) this summer. Pixie's never out of her pom pom dress! Just make sure to bow out of the mud-diving competitions!

Waistcoat - A season essential, throw a fringed, denim or leather waistcoat over your sundress or vest top.

Accessories - Go boho with layered beads, aviators and a straw hat.

Floral fancies

Fri 14 May 2010

Floral fancies

Lipsy floral

Cute floral prints have become a spring/summer staple over the past couple of years, and 2010 trends prove that feminine flowers are here to stay, with some blooming beautiful designs springing up all over the catwalks.

Of course, a floral print sun dress is a s/s must-have and this season there are several styles to choose from - we love the haterneck layered skirt sundress, jersey maxi and Pixie stripe floral border dress. Or for an easy alternative, go for the floral halterneck playsuit.

If you want to inject a bit of flower power into your outfit without going full-on floral, pair our uber-cute ditsy rara skirt with a simple vest top and the floral body with shorts, leggings or skinnies.

And to perfect the look for the festival season, layer-up cute accessories for boho chic. Try the vintage floral long scarf, floral bangles and garland style hairband, and throw your festival essentials into the floral hobo bag.

Cheryl Cole is the queen of style, so of course her favourite cover-ups are the timeless aviators. Light-weight and slick, they're the perfect accompaniment to the staple vest and skinnies look, and when it hots up, swap the jeans for denim cut-offs.

Spring/summer weddings - what to wear

Spring/summer weddings - what to wear

It's that time of year when the invites begin rolling in and the spring/summer weddings start filling up your diary. Unless you're a bridesmaid and have had your frock picked out for you, you're going to have to get yourself a new outfit, but where do you start?

The main points to remember is that you don't want to a) overshadow the bride or b) be mistaken for her, so this usually means that anything long and white is off the menu. Be sure to find out what the bride and groom are planning to wear so that can coordinate and compliment their outfits.

Summer weddings- what Lipsy dress to wear

Weddings are all about romance so go for feminine floral pieces or invest in spring/summer's fairytale trend. The pleated fold detail dress will take you from day to night with ease and can be worn again and again.

Nude is a great shade for weddings as it's soft and subtle and may well coordinate with the bridesmaid outfits. Try our one shoulder drape dress with satin waistband for fairytale romance.

Summer weddings- what Lipsy dress to wear

If you want something a little different and stand-out, go for a floor-skimming dress such as the VIP beaded maxi dress or beaded empire line maxi dress - wear with strappy sandals in the day and change into killer heels for the evening do. The metallic strappy peep toes heels are the perfect wedding shoes.

When it comes to accessories, add a unique twist to your look with hair detail. Try the boho floral garland hairband, as seen on Pixie Lott, or the more traditional beaded leaf headband. And choose contemporary feminine pieces such as the enamel flower earrings, bird and flower charm bracelet or floral cuff.

And the perfect piece to set off any wedding outfit? A hot date of course - if you don't have a man, bag one on the dancefloor.

Trend alert: Double denim

Fri 23 Apr 2010

Trend alert: Double denim

The current buzz words of the fashion press, 'double denim' is moving off the magazine pages and onto the streets as we edge closer to summer.

There was no escaping the denim trend at s/s fashion weeks as Ralph Lauren reprised its Nineties look, pairing distressed jeans with denim shirts. And Chloe, D&G and Jeremy Scott were among the labels to follow suit.

Denim hot-pants had their first airing of the year as off-duty models showed off their skyscraper pins, and the stylista appeal of the fashion favourite was confirmed when Pixie Lott included distressed denim shorts with beaded embellishment in her Lipsy festival range.

Lipsy trend alert: Double denim

How to wear the look

The best thing about this look as that it's easy to wear and comfortable to boot! Pair denim shorts or a denim skirt with a printed vest-top and denim waistcoat and accessorise with long layers of beads for a festival look or throw a light denim shirt over jeans or leggings to embrace the Nineties comeback.

If you're yet to be convinced by the 'double' part of the trend, go for a single piece, such as our zip front denim dress or faded floral denim dress. The look works well with floral print so pair our floral zip corset with denim hot pants or distressed jeans or throw a denim waistcoat over a cute floral sun dress - Pixie Lott style. Alternatively, add subtle denim touches to your outfit with accessories, such as our denim hobo bag or studded denim stilettos.

And as denim never goes out of fashion, you can wear the pieces again and again!

Get the Alice in Wonderland look

Lipsy Alice in Wonderland

Lewis Carroll's classic novel 'Alice's Adventures in Wonderland' has been given the Tim Burton treatment and hits cinemas this week. But it's not just the film world that's all in a frenzy about Alice; her style has also inspired a fashion micro-trend. Part of the season's focus on all things pretty, the Wonderland look is all about girly garms and feminine fun.

Getting romantic on the runway, Chanel, Lanvin and Chloe were among the designers to use tulle and drape detail on fairytale dresses, creating a top spring/summer style. Our organza prom dress fully embraces the trend with a look that's fit for a princess, while the ballerina-style tulle frill skirt is a season essential.

Romantic ruffles are also essential to the Alice look, and needn't be over-the-top. Add a bit of fairytale magic to your day with our tipped ruffle shoulder blouse or the ruffle collar shift dress.

For colours, it's all about soft pastels and a whole lot of pink. The pink prom bust dress with pretty bow detail and bubblegum Grecian wrap skirt come in the perfect ice-cream shades for a flirty summer look.

And with the finishing touches it's all in the details; charms, bows, flowers - anything that appeals to the little princess in you. We love the gold charm bracelet with heart, lipstick and key details, the cute enamel bow necklace and the ultra-pretty pink floral cuff. Or to add a touch of Alice to any outfit with one of our bow belts.

We can't wait to see the film and start our Alice transformation!

London Fashion Week - top trends

London Fashion Week - top trends

The spring/summer season isn't fully underway and already we're previewing autumn/winter looks at London Fashion Week. But worry not, this year trends have a long lifespan - it's more about investment pieces than fast-fashion - and the styles we're wearing now show no sign of going anywhere. So, what can we look forward to seeing a bit more of?

Sequins and gold - As an antidote to the recession blues, opulence dressing is here to stay. Clements Ribero added bling to footwear and boho dresses with sequin detailing, PPQ showcased some rather fabulous gold hot pants and Mulberry went for subtle studded embellishments.

Neutrals and pastels - Shades will continue to be subtle and soft with neutrals in cream, beige and browns, candy-coloured pastels and, if Mulberry's collection is anything to by, a whole lot of charcoal.

Period romance - Take a style cue from period dramas with full skirts, textured materials and romantic embellishments. Bringing it back to basics, the prairie look isn't going anywhere either.

Bows - Bows may be a central part of the 'Alice in Wonderland' micro-trend, but they're not just a flash in the fashion pan. Henry Holland's models strutted down the catwalk with bows in their hair and Orla Kiely prettied-up dresses with bow prints and detailing.

Shoes with socks - Perfect to wear with bare legs in spring or over tights in the colder months, pretty socks make up one of this year's cutest trends: The look works best with sandals, Mary Janes and wedges.

What the celebs wore

The Sugababes - The three girls pulled off very individual looks in the front row, each working one of this season's hottest trends. Amelle went for the underwear as outerwear look - try our zip-front corset with skinny jeans. Jade looked cute in an LWD - spot-on for the Little Miss Perfect trend encapsulated in our wrapover ric rac bow dress. And Heidi opted for sheer romantic ruffles in a top similar to our silk chiffon blouse.

Nicola Roberts - The Girls Aloud fashionista rocked an 80's inspired classic casual look in stone-wash skinnies, red Chanel jacket and cream quilted bag. Get the look in our faded skinny jeans, red silk chiffon blouse and stud quilted hobo bag.

Olivia Palermo - New York scenester Olivia Palermo got graphic at LFW, mixing and matching abstract prints for a truly on-trend look. Check out our asymmetric digital print dress in this season's bright neons.

Get the look: Kate Moss

London Fashion Week is well underway and to celebrate we thought we'd look to Britain's face of fashion, Miss Moss herself, for some style inspiration. The queen of vintage, Kate mixes and matches items to create a look which is marries pretty and classic style with rock chic edge and is stamping her own unique mark all over the season's top trends: bold prints, leather and lace.

Get the look with these top style tips:

Toughen up summer dresses with leather: Kate rocks this season's digital print trend and hardens up the feminine style with a leather bustier. Match our bold asymmetric skirt shift dress with the biker gilet for a truly futuristic look.

Update your LBD with a cream blazer: Go for classic French chic by matching a simple and sophisticated lace LDB with this season's must-have jacket - the cream blazer. Fall in love with the gothic romance of the pleat sleeve lace shift or low back lace prom dress and make it monochrome with our soft crinkle waterfall leather jacket.

Make a statement with colour: Kate's wardrobe is full of low-key neutrals which she uses as style building blocks, and this season's soft grey shade makes for the perfect base. But never one to shy away from attention, she makes sure to make a statement with a bold splash of colour. Accessorise a low-key day-time outfit with a vibrant red tote for ultimate glamour.

The Brit Awards 2010 - Get The Looks

The Brits - get the looks

We absolutely loved the Brits this year! Most deserving winners were most definitely Lady Gaga, who scooped three awards and looked amazing in her lace flower body suit and head-piece and paid tribute to the late Alexander McQueen, and JLS, who were grinning like Cheshire cats as they accepted their awards for Best Breakthrough Act and Best British Single. Looking good boys!

So, to the trends of the evening: There were some fabulous frocks on display, and everyone deserved a big fashion tick in our books.Statement shoulders were very much the order of the night, proving that the trend continues to dominate celeb style, with Leona Lewis, Mel B and Alicia Keys going for architectural shapes. Alicia performed her massive hit 'Empire State of Mind' with Best International Male Solo Artist winner Jay-Z wearing a figure-hugging black sparkly mini dress similar to our V-neck sequin dress.

Despite leaving the Brits empty-handed, Pixie Lott looked stunning in a gothic black mini with lace sleeves and retro-inspired hair. Get the look in our low back lace prom dresslace drop waisted dress or Sarah Harding's favourite, the lace panelled jersey dress. Or mix and match with our lace body.

Cheryl Cole's
high-energy performance of 'Fight for this Love' was one of our personal highlights of the evening: She just keeps getting better and better and looked amazing in a Matrix-style white trench and aviators. The trench is a must-have piece the style of the season - check out our ruched shoulder mac and piped belted mac.  After the quickest outfit change of the evening, Cheryl re-appeared for the second half of her hit in a sparkly black backless body - for a less daring take on the look, go for our glitter backless dress.

Press Day SS10 - sneek peek!

Thu 11 Feb 2010

Press Day SS10 - sneek peek!

Last week we invited the press to feast their eyes on our new spring/summer collection at Lipsy HQ and we were just as excited as them to see the gorgeous new pieces on display. As well as new styles of our famous party dresses, this season we've matched the catwalk trends by incorporating pretty, feminine charm into our designs, taking inspiration from vintage 1990's styles and getting down with the denim revolution.
For evening wear, tribal and animal prints set off by bold colours and embellishments are huge this season. And our Provocateur range draws on the underwear as outerwear trend with maximum effect, using sensual colours, sexy cuts and gorgeous materials to create a look that is hard to resist. One of our favourite pieces is the new lace body - a wardrobe staple for s/s!
Grecian dresses are also making a comeback for the sunny season, with draping, nudes and our signature jewelled pocket details making for ultra-feminine party pieces. And the VIP range is just stunning - even if we do say so ourselves: Feathers, sequins and lace details really give this collection an edge.
But it's not all about party dresses, this season we're also loving the festival-goer trend, with graphic floral prints, 90s-inspired tie-dye and neon animal print tops and maxi-dresses creating feminine and stand-out looks.

The 'saloon girl' range is also brand spanking new, with a focus on denim, floral prints and layering making for a look that Pixie Lott would be proud to wear.  Our three favourite pieces from this collection have to be the blue and white checked gingham dress (so pretty), the Broderie Anglaise LWD (little white dress) - a season essential - and the denim waistcoat that will go with everything!
And as for the other strings to our bow: We have new colours and designs coming into our celeb-favourite logowear range, some bold and beautiful bikinis in neons, abstract prints and polka dots, gorgeous studded and fringed handbags and lace-detail clutches, and cute heart, floral and feather detail jewellery.
Oh, and the shoes, the shoes...swoon. Pinks and nudes, bows, studding and chain detail and wedges and gladiator styles. We're in love!

Pampering princesses
Special thanks has to go out to our gorgeous pampering team who made the day so amazing. We had a masseuse from Cucumba on hand to relieve any stresses, Michelle Griffin hair extensions and the Fake Bake self-tanning experts letting us into the tricks of the trade and celebrity makeup artist Gemma Aldous from Me Me Me giving mini-makeovers! We're loving Me Me Me's affordable range of celeb-ready makeup, especially their 'Beat the Blues Illuminator' for translucent cheek-bone shimmer, 'Fat Cat Lashes' volumising mascara and 'Shimmy Shimmers' brush-on blocks. Make-up bag must-haves!

Wonderbra scoops the best supporting role...

Wonderbra scoops the best supporting role...
The Hollywood A-Listers excelled themselves at the Golden Globes, shimmying down the red carpet in an amazing variety of stunning frocks. But as in the film industry, it takes a lot of work behind the scenes (or seams in this case) to create the finished product, and great dresses demand great bras. So, how to we mere mortals get the looks?

Strapless style
Christina Aguilera and Courtney Cox Arquette went for classic Hollywood glamour, in baby pink and jet black strapless maxi gowns respectively, to complement their colourings. For simple sophistication, check out our white jewelled plunge neck dress and black lace panel dress. Camilla Belle chose a more futuristic style in one of the season's hottest trends - bold abstract print. Get the look in our VIP bustle strapless dress.
Having visible bra straps with such fabulous frocks is a huge fashion no-no, so make sure you're well supported with some behind-the-seams magic. The Wonderbra Ultimate Strapless will not only give your dress great structure, it'll also create a show-stopping cleavage!

One-shoulder wonders
Hitting spring/summer's top trends, Katy Perry and Drew Barrymore dazzled in white and nude Grecian, one-shoulder creations.
This year designers have re-discovered the power of raw, pure and natural shades, with timeless Grecian styles and floaty feminine materials complementing the colours perfectly. Our one-shoulder grecian dress is a summer essential, and the chiffon harness babydoll a feminine fantasy.
And the prize for supporting role must go to...Wonderbra Multi-plunge. If you don't feel comfortable going without straps, you don't have to! Just adjust the straps to fit the shape you your dress's neckline - perfect.

Move over Whitney Port, stand aside Audrina Patridge, there's a new New York socialite on the scene, and we think she may just turn out to be the It girl of 2010. Olivia Palermo's effortless style and sweet feminine charm have well and truly won us over. We love her hair - messy up dos and loose waves - yes please, her smoky eyes and shimmering skin, but most of all we love her clothes!

In just one fabulous outfit she hits three of the season's top trends - pairing a metallic dress with a studded boyfriend blazer. Get the look with our eyelet corset tulip dress, now in the sale, and wear with the crinkle waterfall leather jacket for urban cool.

The model also gets it spot on with this military jacket and skinny jeans combo - love it! Our military wool jacket is now better than half price, down to £30 from £65 - bargain. Wear with wardrobe staple - logo pocket skinny jeans.

Olivia also pulls off feminine girl-about-town chic with ease, looking girly and gorgeous in floaty floral prints and layering a cute pink cardi over a black chiffon top and hotpants - just wear with leggings or tights until the spring! Floral tea-dresses are a style essential for spring and summer, and work just as well in the city as they do in the country. Check out our gather sleeve tea dress. And invest in another upcoming top trend - pastels, with the pink candy stripe belted cardigan - now just £20!

Lipsy's Big Review of the Year

Fri 01 Jan 2010

Lipsy's Big Review of the Year

Wow - what a year it's been. Not a day has passed without a juicy celeb story to get our teeth into, the fashion has been fierce; the music the best we can remember in a long while and it's been non-stop excitement at Lipsy HQ with fashion news and celeb spots nearly every week!

So, what will 2009 be remembered for? We've come up with our own list but let us know if you think we've missed anything!

Katie and Peter - the fairy-tale ends
We all knew that they had a stormy relationship but we never thought they'd actually divorce! Many were in denial about the split and the words 'publicity stunt' sprung to mind on more than one occasion, but Pete stood his ground, Katie started seeing a cross-dresser, returned to the jungle, stopped seeing the cross-dresser...and we just couldn't get enough of the story!

Russell 4 Katy
We never thought we'd see the day - serial-womanizer Russell Brand falling in love and settling down! But Katy Perry has proved his perfect match and after a whirl-wind romance the quirky twosome are now reportedly engaged - good luck to our new favourite couple!

The new princesses of pop
My god, hasn't it just been the best year for music! Loved Cheryl's debut solo single, loved her performance on The X Factor, loved her dresses - so yeah, big celeb crush on Mrs Cole this year! But it hasn't all been about the Geordie lass - 2009 has seen some very strong competition for the crown of Queen of Pop. Our favourite new pint-sized pop princess - move over Kylie - Pixie Lott burst onto the scene with fab tunes and enviable style, Alexandra Burke proved that winning the X-Factor was just the beginning with the absolutely fierce 'Bad Boys', and you couldn't go anywhere without hearing one of Lady Gaga's electro hits or marvelling at photos of her out-there futuristic style!

Twi-hard mania!
Just when we thought it couldn't get any better, New Moon offered up even more brooding looks, sparkling eyes and hot bods than the first Twilight film - major swoon! Taylor Lautner gave R-Pattz a run for his money as crush of the year - although we have to admit that we're still Team Edward - and Kristen Stewart emerged as an unexpected style icon - mixing up grunge and classic feminine styles to create an original look with an uber-cool edge.

Lily Allen = the new face of Chanel
Following in the footsteps of Jerry Hall, Diane Kruger and Milla Jovovich, our very own Brit icon Lily Allen became the new face of Chanel handbags! Karl Lagerfeld described his new muse as '"fun" and, channelling Audrey Hepburn, she proved to be the perfect choice for the campaign. What a style overhaul - we remember the days of sun-dresses, chunky trainers and chav earrings. Good on ya Lil!

The top trends
Designers looked back to the eighties for style inspiration and statement shoulders, sequins, body-con dresses, trophy jackets and jumpsuits became the must-have pieces of the year. We got a glimpse of fashions to come, with a little help from Lady Gaga, and it seems that the future looks metallic, angular and geometric! And let's not forget the rock chic trend - stud and chain details, biker jackets and skinny jeans helped add an edge to girly glamour.

Lipsy-world

Website make-over: We pimped our website to make it better for you! You can now search by style, colour, trend and - coming soon - celebrity, drool over your new fashion crush with larger images and better zoom and pre-order to stay on top of the trends and catch those elusive best-sellers when they come back in stock!

New stores: We know that you love shopping online, but sometimes you need an emergency outfit for that special night out, so we decided to take our party dresses out to the nation by opening up Lipsy stores all around the country. You can now get your Lipsy fashion fix in...deep breath...Newcastle, Manchester Arndale Centre, Lakeside Essex, Liverpool, Dundrum, Cardiff, Nottingham, Braehead Glasgow, Bluewater, Brighton, Belfast and Sheffield.

Lipsy's got the X-Factor: The X-Factor finalists have always had a bit of a thing for Lipsy and this year proved no exception. Lucie Jones and Rachel Adedeji stunned audiences in Lipsy dresses during their live performances, and Lucie - who has joined Lily Cole, Agyness Deyn and Daisy Lowe on the books of Select model agency - has since popped into Lipsy HQ and the Brentcross store for some serious shopping. Everyone's favourite Essex girl, Stacey Solomon, was also spotted rehearsing and chilling out in Lipsy logo-wear during the series, as well as ramping up the glamour in our VIP feather dress for the wrap party!

Celebs love Lipsy:  We don't like to name-drop - well, actually we do - but Lipsy has been a big hit with the stars this year. The likes of the Pussycat Dolls' Kimberly Wyatt, Beverly Knight and Amy Winehouse have all paid Lipsy HQ a visit. Alesha Dixon, The Saturdays and The Hills' Kristin Cavallari have been spotted rocking our party dresses and Lipsy outfits were all over the red carpet at the top soap star events of the year. Oh, and did we mention that our lace zip back top was featured in Vogue not once but twice?! A seal of approval of the highest order!

Jumper for joy

Thu 05 Nov 2009

It may be getting chilly out but this doesn't mean we have to hide our figures away in chunky knit cardies and baggy sweaters. Jumper dresses have had a high-fashion make-over this year so you can keep cutting edge as well as cosy.

Oversized laddered jumpers were all over the catwalk earlier this year, making them one of this season's must-have pieces. Stylishly simple, edgy and effortless to wear, the laddered jumper dress is a timeless wardrobe staple. Snap up our cobweb knitted tunic and open weave tunic before they sell out. Wear over tightsleggings or skinny jeans and slip over a bright top for a flash of colour.

Trend alert: Studs

Wed 28 Oct 2009

Studs were the talk of London Fashion Week, with the catwalks awash with riveting adornments on everything from classic biker jackets and boots to silk dresses and accessories. It's a nod to 70s punk with a forward thinking and oh-so-chic twist. Here's how to rock the look:

Waist watching - Get on trend with bad girl chic with this season's studded belts. Beverley Knight showed us how to add bite to a classic LBD at the MOBO Awards 2009 Nominations Launch at London's The May Fair Hotel. Update your look in an instant with our studded waist belt or edgy punk double buckle waist belt. Simple!

Pixie Lott is bang on trend in this xxl-studs mini dress. Follow her lead with our sexy, figure hugging, strapless studded dress with brass studs or play it cool in our studded dress in soft chiffon.

Lipsy loves: Bold Shoulders!

Mon 12 Oct 2009

You'd have to have been living on another planet for the last few months to still be in the dark about the statement shoulder trend. Along with sequins it is THE top trend of AW09. Having emerged when top-name designers Balmain, Marc Jacobs, Givenchy and D&G looked to the eighties for inspiration, statement shoulders have been adopted by such style icons as Victoria Beckham, Rihanna, Blake Lively and Kate Moss.

Subtler than 80's power dressing pads, today's structured shoulders are all about creating drama with delicate detailing and futuristic designs. And best of all, the architectural silhouettes make waists look tiny by comparison!

Try our studded shoulder dressasymmetric zip shift dress or backless glitter dress for a Lipsy take on the trend. Hit two trends in one with the sequin futuristic dress or v neck sequin dress in the style of Blake Lively. Or add drama to any outfit with this season's must have item, the military tux jacket.
